Looking at the Sky on Friday

These pictures were taken within a few minutes of each other Thursday morning.
I just live the sunrise. We have had WONDERFULLY unseasonably warm weather lately. This turned into another sunny day in the 50s!
The house was quiet and I thought I heard some geese so I ran to the window. What a welcome sign of spring on the horizon!
For more pictures of the sky check out CrAzY Working Mom -and play along too!

pretzels

We made some pretzels as suggested by the Holy Heroes crew.
They loved rolling in the flour.

Emmy's mess was genuine. Now how is that possible? Her pretzels really got worked over let me tell you. If you had one and it was extra chewy, you knew right away who made it!!

a tooth fairy visit

Josie FINALLY lost a tooth! It has been a long time coming. She has been saying for months (which those months could have very easily stretched into a year now!) "I think this tooth is wiggly" but it never has been.
Finally, Josie, you have joined the ranks of those whom have lost a tooth.
CONGRATULATIONS!
(and thanks dad for pulling it out!)

The skating finale

We took the kids skating for one last winter hurrah. They stink!
From left to right - Russell, Georgia, Josie, Me and Emeline. Emmy was brave. She kept telling me she didn't need the balancer and actually was able to walk around without it a few times. Georgia has NO ankle strength and she looks like her legs are going to brake in two all the while. Josie used the balancer but was able to turn it loose and go pretty fast on occasion. She lacked the courage to try it without. Russell wasn't that bad although he did take a few hard tumbles!

Brad's A-plus photography. Anyone interested in hiring him?

I turned on my jets too and Emeline sailed from end to end. I was skating in hockey skates for the first time. The first thing I did was try to use the grippers on my toe (like a figure skate has). I quickly learned, after getting up close and personal with the ice, that hockey skates have no little toe grippers!

Emmy loved it!

Stations of the Cross

We made some stations of the cross by using these cards and then framing them with popsicle sticks for our wall. As a great surprise we were sent a wonderful set of Holy Heroes Stations of the Cross coloring books and CD. The girls and I LOVE them so much. (Thank You!!)
We said the Stations right away and the images of my little girls kneeling and so earnestly saying them just brought tears to my eyes!

pony fun

There is Georgia working "Bub". He's named after the runt of a horse from the book "Justin Morgan Had a Horse".

We've been saving money for a saddle. That'll be soon so I can safely lead them on his back.

The latest on Margie

Margie was being her cute and adorable self yesterday so I snapped a picture of her talking to "Dada" on the phone.
Soon, while camera was still in tow, she went to the window sill where a lone fly was dreaming about when the snow was going to melt and when the sun will start shining, and when spring will finally be here and what it was going to find for lunch.... Margie went right after him.
I said, "Margie leave that buggie alone, YUCK." She smiled....
...and went right back to chasing him around.
Ut Oh I think she caught him! EEeeeewwww. "Margie let go of that fly!!"
"MARGIE DON'T EAT THE FLY"
"Oh. Flies are yucky Mom. Ok I'll just take him out and shred the poor thing to pieces."
OH MY GOODNESS WHAT A MOMENT!

March, in Like a Lion?

We decided to make a cute lion out of a paper plate for the saying "March comes in like a lion out like a lamb."
Josie's lion in the middle is sad. She has to march to her own drummer! I'm not so sure March is coming in like a lion. If this is a lion we'll be hitting 50's by the end of March. I just hope the opposite isn't true. - If March comes in like a lamb, is it supposed to go out like a lion?
Happy March to all!! I smell spring in the air!

Our Olympic Unit

We learned so much while doing a unit based around the Winter Olympics. Here the kids and dad made a luge. There were many runs down that thing and I guess Dad won and Georgia got upset because she didn't go the farthest. They were out there for quite a while. That old hill got a lot of use over the past month. I told the girls we'll have to pick up a pair of skis and a snowboard sometime to give that a whirl.
The one and only spectator!

We dedicated a whole wall to all that we learned and could put on paper. Flags and symbols galore.
We kept track of our medals too. Way to go Team USA!
A little geography practice! They were amazed at just how many countries participated and were in one place at the same time.
Emeline had her own corner of winter olympic sports coloring pages.
We loved practicing making inuksuits. Josie made this one lying down.
Here is Georgia's.
Here is Josie's.
We did many webquests about the ancient olympics and modern olympics, enjoyed learning about Team USA and our athletes representing us, my only complaint: telling the kids a few weeks ago that when the olympics began they could stay up and watch it every night. What a plain old DUMB thing to say!!! Thank goodness they are FINALLY over!! :)

Georgia's party

It was a quiet family birthday for Georgia this year. Poor Josie woke up with a belly ache and we had to cancel having any kids over because she wasn't feeling well.
The grandparents didn't miss it though.
Grandpa B teasing Emmy.
My little dude Margie.
Georgia can't get enough of her horse shirt! I'm glad she likes it. Actually, she has it on as she is looking over my shoulder as I type this too!!!
She got a hymn book from the G family that is full of duets. Grandma says she can play with her in church when she learns a song down pat!!!
Look at that tongue.
Then Margie showed us her moves. Lets see she has the Margie Sue shuffle, the tray, chicken wing, the tornado, the swing... She's got them all!

Looking at the Sky on Friday

After a brutal storm last night we woke up to a beautiful peek into the atmosphere. Still dark and dreery but the pink was refreshing.
