R-E-S-P-E-C-T !

Georgia was granted a respect award yesterday. That-a-girl! Poor Josie. I need to come up with something for her. We do have an ongoing list on our fridge where I write down ways that she has been a good girl. She has done a lot of sharing and helping around here lately. Good job Josie! (It's always Georgia, Georgia, Georgia!!)
Thanks for the Kidizoom camera disc Stacy. Note the star in the photo.

Georgia's first softball game.

Here is the team as cute as can be. You can see Georgia all smiles second from left. The parents were beaming and so proud with the anticipation of the first pitches and hits! Little did they know!!!!!

And here she is. The lead off batter. (They are supposed to be able to make contact right.) Her mom and dad were so excited because she has come so far from the start of practices. She can really rip a ball to the outfield now and we felt a rush of pride as she went up to the plate. First pitch way to high.... but she swung. Second a foul tip, third....... she struck out. Now Georgia you must have forgotten that your dad is a P.E. teacher and your mom is pretty athletic as well. I mean how embarassing.

I'M JUST KIDDING!! She turned things around. She had a nice crack to second base.... ONLY TO GET CALLED OUT AT FIRST! I mean by the time she got to first I had read the entire first Act of Hamlet. Come on turn on the jets Georgia. ;)

Look at the girl ready at second. She looks like a pro.

You made us proud Georgia. We look forward to game 2 tomorrow!

I'm not sure who won. Most said it was a tie but somehow I think they were just told that to make them feel better!!

Man I'm mean.

home-made wind sock

It was such a windy day yesterday we decided to make a patriotic wind sock for flag day. First we gathered some supplies- a cylindrical container, glue, scissors, construction paper and string. Also we needed a hole punch (or something to poke holes) and streamers.
We took off the hot chocolate wrapper and re-covered our hot chocolate container with blue construction paper.

I cut out some red and white stars for Josie to glue on as a decoration.

Then we found some crepe paper streamers that will blow nicely in the wind. Josie thought it was genius that she figured out to reach inside both sides of the container to help in the taping.

Lastly Mom poked some holes, tied some string and voila, we made a wind sock.

The test! It works!!

Wrecker!

This is what I did yesterday. Just wander around picking up after our Hurricane Emeline. I've learned that she is not in playing nicely with her sister in the playroom. No, she is somewhere quite causing the equivalent to a natural disaster. She just opens the drawer or closet and starts chucking stuff. What a bad girl. Potty training is so-so. I didn't expect anything. She was successful once! Josie spent yesterday pretty quiet because of her ear and actually Georgia stayed home in the morning because her ear ached. Her first game was cancelled yesterday because of the rain. Looks like her game tomorrow will more than likely be rescheduled too.

outside work

When Dad and Georgia got home from school we did some more yard work. My iris garden is almost in full bloom. The brother and sister in law of a friend of mine (Jenny P) gave me these flowers a couple of years ago. I just love them.
Aren't they beautiful!

While working dad pulled the girls in their wagon. Josie has a hat on because yesterday I took her to the doctor and the doctor said No More Monkeys ... no he said "You must blow your nose!" She had an ear infection.

potty training

I am sick of buying diapers. So, we are giving potty training a go since it is sunshiny and we can do a lot of it outside to spare my floors!! Emeline loves her new "big-girl" pants if you couldn't tell by her toothy grin. She doesn't get the concept at all but she listens intently. That's good enough for me right now - for about 2 days anyway! Another thought- isn't it funny how when they are so little we say "big-girl" (or boy but I have never said that) when they do something we like but deep down we desparately want them to stay little. It almost hurts for me to call her a "big girl".

Eyed Elater Click Beetle

Have you ever seen one of these? I never had until yesterday. It was on Brad's shoulder. Upon some research I discovered it is an eyed elater click beetle. Supposedly if you turn it over on its back it plays dead. After some time it will arch it's back and flip itself up to 6 inches in the air to right itself. When it flips over it makes a loud clicking noise. Wish I had flipped the bugger on its backside now!!
Bandit went nuts over this bug. What a watch dog!

Yesterday I finally got some flower pots finished to flank our bridge. I have wanted to do this for years just never have. They are a little skimpy right now but they should fill out nice.

Yep they look good!

Dad's baseball party!

Emmy enjoyed Dad's end of the year baseball party. This is her new smile.
Daddy took advantage of a fun baseball game. Boy can he really hit the ball. HOME RUN!

What a cutie in the catcher's gear. Not sure why the batter didn't take his gear off to hit??

Chapter books and sun catchers.

Josie has been complaining of an ear ache on and off for the past couple of days. Must be all the time spent outside in the strong wind we have had is taking its toll. She stayed inside today and started her first chapter book. Go Josie Go!!

We picked up a couple of sun catchers for Josie to paint with the intentions of giving them as a gift. This especially beautiful one is going to someone on June 15th.

outside work

Today I tried tilling the garden again. It is taking me a while. Little people have a hard time keeping occupied by themselves so I usually only get one pass at a time
(if I am lucky)!

Josie and I decided to try something. We found some baby trees and dug them up to see if we can get them to grow. We have a LONG driveway and I would love to have it lined with trees but am too cheap to buy trees at the store. We will try it this way.
We also took care of the ducks today. When the ducks see Em they go right to their house- can you blame them.

Em is like her mommy, she loves animals. Here she is giving love to Tommy the cat.

newfound motor ability means newfound places to get stuck!

Remember the not so scary places Em used to get stuck in? Under the bed, under a chair. Well, while we had the dish washer open last night she decided she would crawl onto the door. It was all fun until she realized she was "stuck"!

For the first time since last year I saw "my" Northern Flicker yesterday!

duck enclosure II

Emeline the little rascal didn't help out much at all!!

We spent our Memorial Day at yet another parade (I thought I would spare you another picture of the girls in their crowns :) ). After the parade we ate lunch, the girls rode bikes while Brad and I played tennis then we went home and built a bigger duck enclosure.

Battle of the Bands

We spent yesterday at the Battle of the Bands Memorial Day Parade. It has been our Memorial Day Weekend tradition for years. It is a parade that I used to march in and it was always one of my favorites. The kids also had a riding lesson which I didn't get a picture of. They are getting more and more interested- I love it!!

Cookout!

The three little cousins sported some Patriotic crowns that I made.

Russell was a tour guide as he led us on a walk.

We realized after bouncing the babies for a couple minutes that they were all imitating eachother. They were making the classic baby sound of awwwwwwwww with each bump. I was honestly surprised that they all had their wits about them afterwards- it was a lot of bouncing. I videotaped it for Jessie because some thought it was sure to win the $ for a funniest home video.

The usual heated game of horseshoes was played. Rick you look like a ballerina!

What's the best thing to do after a cookout? Just sit around and enjoy one another.

working at the book fair

Em, Jo and I were asked to work at the book fair at "Georgia's" school. What fun. Both of my older girls aspire to be "check out girls" one day so this gave Jo a little taste. She, of course, loved all of the buttons (thus the reason behind her aspiration) that were required to check people out. It was also pretty neat to give back change. Georgia even stopped in to say hello.

Ready...Set...Read!

I thought I would add this picture of the ducks chasing the kids. It is a funny sight to see them waddle so fast. They certainly are followers- anytime someone walks or runs by them they follow.

We went to a reading event! The kids had so much fun. I think one of the most exciting points of the day was meeting Stacy, Ava, Brendan and Ava's friend there. We were to bring in a canned food item in exchange for a free book. There were tables from different community organizations where the kids could make crafts, see animals, experiment with braille, buy books, see science "stuff" etc.

Em got mail!

Thank you Grandma and Grandpa H for Emeline's birthday wishes and gift. She was thrilled to have something in the mail! We love you.
